چکیده

The availability of sufficient water resources is critical for sustainable social and economic development globally. However, recurrent drought has been a precursor to inadequate supply in the case Borkena Catchment, Awash River Basin, Ethiopia. To support conjunctive use management surface groundwater an integrated model was developed using SWAT–MODFLOW model. designed operate on monthly time scale. change balance obtained from provides quantitative means assess effect climate variability changes, as well impact human activities, resources. advance understanding at regional local scales, water–groundwater interactions Catchment geochemical information piezometer maps were integrated. results show that recharge study area approximately 122 mm/a. interaction areas around Harbu Dessie are characterized losing rivers, while Kemisse-Chefa highlands Kutaber, where originates, gaining rivers. A analysis indicated there inter-basin transfer Abbay basin. generated key temporal spatial useful resilience face increasing demand.

Diets of the Red-billed Quelea (quelea Quelea) in the Awash River Basin of Ethiopia

INTRODUCTION An understanding of the feeding ecology of the red-billed quelea (Quelea quelea) is necessary for a comprehensive assessment of the potential impact of this species on cereals development. Queleas are reported to subsist primarily on wild Gramineae (Ward 1965a; Gaston 1976), but their mobility and tendency to feed in large aggrega-tions readily adapts them to becoming a major cerea...

A new hominid parietal from Bodo, Middle Awash Valley, Ethiopia.

A piece of left parietal of a Middle Pleistocene hominid, recovered from the Upper Bodo Sand Unit, in the Middle Awash, Ethiopia, is described anatomically and compared to Middle Pleistocene hominids and modern Homo sapiens. It bears several primitive features and has important implications for the original Bodo skull, found at the same stratigraphic level in the same area. The new fossil skull...

Monitoring of metals, organic compounds and coliforms in water catchment points from the Sinos River basin.

Unplanned use and occupation of the land without respecting its capacity of assimilation and environmental purification leads to the degradation of the environment and of water used for human consumption. Agricultural areas, industrial plants and urban centres developed without planning and the control of effluent discharges are the main causes of water pollution in river basins that receive al...

Quantifying and Modeling Stream-aquifer Interactions in the Elkhorn River Basin, Nebraska

This study combined statistical analyses, field investigations and numerical groundwater flow modeling to quantify the connectivity between the Elkhorn River and its adjacent aquifers in Nebraska. The Mann-Kendall trend tests were conducted to detect increasing or decreasing tendencies on the time series data of streamflow, which were collected from eighteen gauging stations in the Elkhorn Rive...
